2010 saw Minis4Kids do something different. Classic and modern Mini’s from all over the UK gathered at The National Motor Museum Beaulieu for our first weekender event, with a Pink Panther theme in honour of Portsmouth born Peter Sellers who would have been 85 a few days after the event.
Starting from this prestigious venue, the drivers headed off in search of their ferry to cross the Solent and invade the Isle of Wight. Courtesy of Wightlink we crossed the short stretch from Lymington to Yarmouth and meet up with more cars on the island before the start of our grand tour.
In a relaxed drive the cars headed out towards Freshwater and onto Military Road, stopping for photos of the stunning views and a well deserved ice cream, over looking Blackgang Chine. A mention on Wave 105 as we drove around by Rick Jackson gave everyone a feel good boost. We continued onwards to our afternoon tour of award winning Rosemary Vineyard just outside Ryde. A great tour and tasting was followed by a stock up of some of the wares before a quick trip to our campsite.
With everyone relaxing a quick drive for supplies let us spend a relaxing evening chatting and enjoying the weather.
Sunday saw everyone up and about sorting ready for our return to the mainland and a fun filled day at Gunwharf Quays. After another short trip back we made the short dash and grabbed a well deserved brunch onsite, before parking the cars around the complex. This year we were proud to have the support of mountain bike display team “Zero Gravity” who thrilled the shoppers with their death defying stunts and antics in the arena, and jump over a very pink, Pink Panther.
With fancy dress and fundraising activities in full swing a great day was had thanks to the support of the tenants of Gunwharf Quays including Barbour, The Works and Bowlplex. We had some great views courtesy of Spinnaker Tower supporting us with a great discount on trips again.
We wish to thank Andy Jackson of Wave 105 for coming along and opening our event for the second year running, arriving in style in a Pink Limo courtesy of Mark One Limousines. His continued support is greatly appreciated.
Minis4Kids Mini 50 at Gunwharf Quays
October 11th saw Minis from all over southern England descend on Gunwharf Quays for the annual charity fundraising day.
The day kicked off with a drive in from Southsea Guided by Wave 105's Andy Jackson followed along by a stream of Mini's of all shapes and sizes. After a full invasion of cars in to Gunwharf Quays the day settled with a visit from Olympic Athlete Rob Tobin, courtesy of AVIVA insurance.
The event then linked with the Portsmouth Film Festival, for a unique experience. The classic movie, "The Italian Job" was introduced by it's Oscar Winning producer Michael Deeley and author of "The Making of The Italian Job" Mathew Field. Michale was interviewed by Wave 105 reporter Charlotte Butt, and gave a great insite for Mini Owners and movies fans alike.
